The sandy beach of Rethymno city is located just 500m east of the city centre, next to the Venetian port. It's a lovely beach with golden sand and crystal clear shallow water, very well organized and close to all amenities of the city. It is actually the westernmost end of the 13km long beachfront of Rethymno Bay, which stretches east all the way to Skaleta. The vast beach is always busy, but never seems too crowded. It is needless to say that on the beach you will find services such as umbrellas, lifeguard, beach bars, showers, changing rooms, water sports, etc. But what you really should know is that the loggerhead sea turtle (Carretta carretta) lays its eggs on the beach. Thus, do not get surprised if you meet some places that have been marked with ropes; eggs have been found there and are protected by swimmers. The Rethymno Gulf is one of the three most important places for the loggerhead sea turtle in Greece with more than 400 nests every year.

The beach Episkopi is located 45km east of Chania and 14km west of Rethymnon, in a fertile valley with lowlands. It takes its name after the nearby village Episkopi, located 2km to the south. Almost no-one Greek knows this place, but everybody knows the family Vardinoyannis, originating from here; this is one of the richest business families in Greece. The beach is bounded on the west by the river Mouselas and west by the river that runs in the gorge of Petres and the beaches of Petres. It is a long beach, 3.5km long, which is sandy, shallow and mostly wavy, like most beaches in North Crete. It is well organized, since there are many hotels, restaurants, taverns, bars and all the amenities one could need. In the western part of the beach you can find places with lifeguards, showers, changing rooms, umbrellas, snack bars, water sports, etc. However, given its big length, you can certainly find a quiet spot, especially in the easternmost part, next to Petres bridge.

Panormo is situated about 20km east of Rethymnon city. It is a tranquil seaside village, which has met a fast development during the last decades, without however losing its traditional character. The wild beauty of the pure Cretan landscape, the picturesque village, the beautiful beaches and easy access have contributed to this development. In Panormo there are actually two main beaches and a few smaller ones. As its Greek name implies (means place with natural port), Panormos is a natural harbor with calm water. The harbor (Limanaki) beach serves as the port of the area. It is sandy and the sea has clear water. It is ideal for families with small children, as it is shallow and it's cement pier protects it from waves. It is well organized with umbrellas, showers, water sports and many options for accommodation and food around. Adjacent, on the east, there is a smaller sandy unorganized beach, not preferred by swimmers.
