Had led the scene in New Nordic dining for over ten years. An institution. Place to splurge a little, and go away with an unforgettable (and truly Norwegian) experience.

City's best Chinese that was hidden from view due to the shabby "brunn pub" interior and alcoholics reigning in on the cheap beer. Recently gotten attention and press. Order from the pink "secret" menu (now translated in English). Mabo tofu and fried eggplant are the favorites.

If you head to Grünerløkka and find the park/square, the infamous restaurants at the park`s edge with huge outdoor seating. Here's descending order of the quality of the restaurants (1 = best) 1. Skaal Matbar. Natural wines and the best food/service. Head chef formerly at one of the creative great restaurants in Oslo, Palacegrill. 2. Parkteatret - one of Oslo's best music venues and most recently, some of the city's best pizza. Try the Okonomiyaki one for something different. Art deco / classic "grunerløkka" style interior. 3. Villa Paradiso - another pizza place thats bit of an institution, started by Jan Vardoen who completely changed the face of the neighborhood by introducing this place, along with bars Aku Aku (Great tiki bar around corner) and Bar Boca. Some of the former team left to start their own place in Youngstorget, arguably better Napoli-style pizza - Girotondo. 4. Indian place - decent, but often empty... 5. Eldhuset - not. good. Oven reheated BBQ and overcooked, overpriced burgers. Do. not. recommend.

Neighbourhoods

Been bit gentrified over the years, but still a city favorite. Walk through Torggata, over the bridge/river, down Markveien for the scenic route. Lots of amazing bars, vintage shops, clothing stores.

I have lived in over six apartments in this neighborhood-- gamlebyen is a neighborhood many are loyal to for it's diversity and multi-cultural immigrant population. In recent years lots of hip new places popping up, from Zz Pizza to Brutus and Fuglen coffee roasters. favorite place to eat? Local fav Lahore Deri-- for some real Pakistani food, get the Lamb Karahi. Nothing else on the menu quite compares. Or Punjab Tandoori, quite possibly oldest Indian restaurant in the city with value meals and the best Nan in town.

Located bit down Aker Brygge, still a 10-15 min walk from the Villa. Fantastic way to start the day, take a refreshing dip in the Oslo fjord. If owner Dean is working you're in for a treat (aroma ritual).

A gigantic spa park for grown-ups (aond who aren't afraid to git nekked). Very inexpensive entry if you go in the evening. recommend to catch The Well bus from the hotel (check website). Has a good spa. If you like super strong pressure... ask for Henrik.

One of the oldest and most loved concert venues in Oslo. You can also pass this on a nice walk along Akerselva river. Check out their weekly program, or drop by for a beer/pizza on their outdoor seating. They are surrounded by the cool art high school, so you can see a lot of the student works displayed around the area. Hot Sunday tip: a little market every Sunday. https://whereinoslo.com/place/sondagsmarkedet-pa-bla/

Walks

One of the main touristy jaunts, but a walk (or run) we regularly take. From our house, point Google maps to Rådhuset. Its a 10-15 min walk crossing Karl Johan (high shopping street). From there you can walk along the walkway towards right-- where you´ll hit Nobel Peace center, restaurants along Aker Brygge (quite overpriced and mediocre quality) and final destination to Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art. --If you veer left from Rådhuset, you will end up towards The Opera, the new Deichmans library, and the new Munch museum. Talor donuts, Maeemo and the Vandelay all in that vicinity,

Consejos para la ciudad

Facilidad para moverse por la casa

When to use the T-bane

Villa Dahlee is 5 mins walk to Stortinget Tbane (Tube/Underground), exiting on the Akersgata side. Use the TBane for easy access to parts more out of the city, nature hikes or ski places. Grønland or Majorstuen are two Main stations I use the T-bane for. If you are headed to Oslo S, you can of course get to Jernbanetorget this way, or it's just as easy to walk :)
Costumbres y cultura

everything is closed on Sundays...

...except Bunnpris (bottom of Kristiparken) and Joker, and few Turkish shops in Grønland. Booze shops are closed and most bars close early :) Beer sales close at 8pm weekdays.

Tipping

Tipping was not the norm 10-15 years ago in Oslo, and now in restaurants and bars it is (around 10% is appreciated). Do not stiff your hard working server, even if you are on holiday! The only places you do not commonly tip are (the overpriced) taxi drivers, and hairdressers.
