Lincoln Cathedral towers over the city and can be seen for many miles away. It is one of Europe's finest Gothic buildings, once the tallest in the world, with stunning views from the roof and intricate design inside. The Victorian, John Ruskin, thought it "out and out the best piece of architecture in the British Isles and roughly speaking worth any two other cathedrals we have".

This world class visitor attraction exhibits the Cathedral's copy of Magna Carta within a specially built vault. You can walk around the castle walls and don't miss the fascinating Victorian prison.

Once voted "Britain's Best Street" this area of historic Lincoln leads to the "Uphill" part of the city which is full of specialist and boutique shops. Lincoln is a city in two parts. The main shopping area is at the bottom of Steep Hill and the cultural quarter is at the top.

Over 57,000 men gave their lives to Bomber Command defending the country during WW11 and this place tells the stories of many of the airmen. Look out also in the county for Airfield visitor centre at Metheringham and the |LIncolnshire Aviation Centre at Spilsby.

Woodhall Spa is a charming small town only a short distance away. Its Cottage Museum and Kinema in the woods are reminiscent of a different era. The Spa Trail is good for an enjoyable walk and Woodhall is , of course, the home of Golf.

Somersby is the birthplace of Lincolnshire's most famous poet and the Tennyson Trail (see leaflets in the let) is an excellent way of following his life and incidentally exploring our county. When I was biking in this quiet area of little villages like Somersby and Bag Enderby in September 2019 I was the only tourist in each of the tiny churches.

This in an area of rolling hills, narrow lanes and picturesque villages like Ashby Puerorum with interesting stories to tell. It has many trails for walkers , cosy rural pubs and is a comparatively quiet AONB.

Skegness and Mablethorpe will give the bucket and spade experience and Sutton on Sea is worth a visit but for a quiet walk along the beach Anderby area would be my choice.

Well worth a visit to see the excellent work done by the Bransby team in rescuing and rehabilitating their many horses, ponies and donkeys. There is no entrance fee but you can support them by donating or visiting the tea shop or the gift shop. There are pleasant walks around the fields and all is very well maintained.

This is a homely country house dated 1700. You will find it off the Gunby roundabout on the A158 between Spilsby and Skegness. It is set in picturesque Victorian walled gardens at the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds. It also has a tearoom and a second hand bookshop. You don't need to pre-book on weekdays but weekends can be busier.

Completed in 1600, this Elizabethan Hall and estate has been in the same family for over 400 years and is well worth a visit not only for the interesting history of the building and the pleasant walks but also for its excellent farm shop, restaurant and cafe. Rather like a miniature Chatsworth experience its ideal for a stop for coffee and home made pastries.

Its historic associations with the Dambusters makes this an interesting eating place in Woodhall Spa and it has extensive, attractive gardens too. It has a full menu but we especially recommend the afternoon teas.
