Hastings Old Town is about half an hour walk along the sea front. There is so much to offer... fish n chips, trendy coffee shops, quirky junk, antique and vintage shops, gifts, clothing... cool bars and restaurants.... For the above start along George Street and continue up the High Street. You'll see very old houses, narrow streets and very old pubs and churches. You can get the Cliff Railway to the top of West Hill for the gorgeous views and Hastings Castle, or the Dungeons. Along the sea front itself you'll find 'traditional' cheesy seaside town fun like crazy golf, kids trampolines, bike hire, ice creams, arcade games and places to but rock, nets and your buckets and spades. If you keep walking you'll see the East Cliff, another cliff railway and the UK's largest working fishing beach. Buy fresh fish, calamari, cockles or whatever you fancy. You'll see the black fisherman's huts (used to dry the nets) and the fishing boats. There are some lovely pubs to get refreshments before you go to the Aquarium or the Ship Wreck Museum. There's literally so much to see... on certain days you might find the place is overrun with pirates (pirates day, in July) or pagans (Green Man Festival, May).

Fairlight Glen beach is a 30 minute trek from the Hastings County Park car park but the countryside and wildlife en-route adds to the experience. Despite the warning signs that the path to the beach has been eroded, it's navigable with care, mainly due to the kind souls who have added steps in along the way. There are a couple of ropes to help with a steeper section and the final decent onto the beach. This is a nudist beach, but is usually fairly quiet due to it being a bit more difficult to access. Please note: make sure to check the tide times when visiting - in a Spring tide the beach is virtually inaccessible an hour and a half before and after high water.

This part of the nature reserve is an excellent place for a country woodland walk. It will get your heart pumping with the steep inclines. A varied path that meanders alongside the stream bank. Lots of waterfalls along the way as it cascades down the steep slopes.

Visit St Clement’s Caves, which were formed around 14,000 BC, during the last known Ice Age. Since their creation, these mysterious and spooky caves have had a fascinating role to play in the history of the Hastings area. The caves served as a home, a hospital, an air-raid shelter, and a ballroom – of which even the royal family and The Rolling Stones have visited! These ancient caves are steeped in so much history that no one is actually sure how long the caves have been used by man – or other creatures for that matter. The stonework is etched with so much mystery that researchers still continue to try and discover the clues that tell the story of this historic area’s secret past. The caves provide the perfect location for a vivid recreation of the fascinating, dark, and often bloody stories of smuggling and piracy along the Sussex Coast. Ever wondered where buccaneers hid back in the 17th and 18th centuries? Well, look no further, because these caves have stories to tell and you’ll want to hear them!
