The local Hastings Point area and surrounds

Hastings Point is the smallest coastal settlement of New South Wales Tweed Shire; the "Jewel of the Tweed", surrounded by national park, the hamlet is nestled between the ocean on its east and a beautiful but delicate estuary on its west. It is the entrance for the now nationally recognised "Green Cauldron" and is identified without doubt as one of the unique seaside locations in Australia. Visitors come here to appreciate nature at her finest, the unspoilt beaches are just the start. Many of the local residents help protect, clean and nurture the environment, acting as stewards for future generations. Put simply, there is nothing like it. For as long as one can remember, seasonal visitors have been attracted to the natural beauty of Hastings Point. With a safe creek feeding onto the beach, Hastings Point has provided a wonderful playground for local families for years.
A great place to spend time and relax. Hastings Point is almost entirely surrounded by water. Cudgera Creek winds through the hamlet of Hastings Point to meet the Pacific Ocean. From the sandy shores lining the creek bank, children can safely swim in the usually calm, clear water. Mangrove wetlands deliver rewards to the crab pots. Explore the rockpools or paddle a kayak / canoe and get “lost” in the meandering estuaries. Two unspoilt beaches. Anglers can alternate between beach or river fishing. A regular surfing and wind-boarding spot. A headland where visitors can sit, have a picnic and during the migrating whales season watch the amazing animals pass by.

An approximate twenty-minute drive north from Hastings Point. We enjoy the reasonably priced food, the unusual tropical drinks, the ability to purchase a range of fruits (many not sold in fruit shops). We find sitting in the café, over-looking the working farm and hinterland is a relaxing way to spend some time. Entry is free unless you want to undertake a tour of the farm or partake in optional activities. There is also a gift shop is available onsite. Operates on the Queensland time zone despite being in New South Wales.

The Pottsville Markets are held every first and third Sunday of the month from 7:30am until just after lunch. A great variety of stalls from fresh produce to handicraft, and everything in between. I usually end up buying a variety of fresh, tasty food and taking it back to the unit. A community run event with all proceeds assisting the community. The community centre is open during the markets. This centre includes one of my favourite op shops and preloved furniture store.

Our favourite go to Thai Restaurant. We usually try to visit at least once during every visit to the coast. Meals are reasonably priced and tasty. BYO dine in or takeaway. At certain times they will deliver to Hastings Point.
