Food Scene
Looking at the menu you might say “this looks like any other Brooklyn farm to table restaurant” but it’s seriously outstanding food, and very cozy inside. I’m consistently surprised and delighted when I eat there. Every time!! Things are so balanced, so unique, so delicious. They just do it right. They only have one table for reservations of 8-12 so if you want to go there while you're staying, be sure to call in advance.

A classic American diner that was taken over by a local family of farmers. All of their meat and dairy is raised on their property just outside of town and meets some ridiculous ethical standards. They are known best for their burgers

The lobby of this superbly renovated motel is worth gawking at. So airy and well-designed. Stop by to sit or just peek: ideally you could just have a coffee, a biscuit with butter and jam in their light-filled library and kitchenette area, or go for full on breakfast. You can also go in the evening to their sultry back bar area for a fancy, if pricey, cocktail.

Bright airy headquarters for this upstate bakery's major operations. Amazing fresh breads, pastries, sandwiches, soups, granola. Beautiful patio on which to sit outside. We like to go on the way to the house (to pick up many carbs for a delicious weekend) or on the way home (for a pre-road trip sandwich)

They used to have their shop in downtown Hudson, and it was VERY sad when they moved away. Get the morning bun!

A historic artist’s mansion / estate. It belonged to Frederic Church (landscape painter who formed the Hudson River School). Has rotating exhibitions and awesome landscaping (as to be expected by someone who made his living painting landscapes) + views out over the Catskills. It’s less than 10 min from the house.
