Sightseeing

A local, family owned chateau that can be reached by bike (borrow one of ours). It is near, interesting and the guided tour is not to long and conducted by one of the family.

A fine old city with cathedral, castle and an amazing old tapestry. Also has good shops and restaurants. A 'buzzy' place.

The chateau here is the home of Sleeping Beauty (they say!) and there is a great exhibition about her. And of course it's very near the Loire so lovely riverside drives are possible.

Another chateau town - right on the Loire. Also the home of Clos Luce where Leonardo da Vinci spent his last years - there's a fabulous museum of some of his inventions.

Probably the most well known Chateau of them all - certainly one of the most beautiful. It is well worth a visit.

Everything Else

Lovely old town with great market on Tuesday mornings. Bourgueil is the centre of the wine appellation and has a Maison de Vins where you can taste and buy some of the best.

Benais has the best wines of the Bourgueil appellation and we think that the best of all are those of Pierre-Jacques Druet. He certainly does the best tastings. Ask P and P for details.

Food Scene

Although we've marked it 'restaurants' Chinon is a lovely very old town with a long history. Joan of Arc famously 'recognised' the Dauphin here. A lovely town square and an interesting old castle.
