Only 100m from my house: This is where Monet painted 'La Maison Bleue', the blue house, in 1871. The house is still blue. Monet stayed a couple of months in Zaamdam and painted 25 paintings here.

Originally a conservation area for traditional Dutch houses and windmills, this is now a free of charge open air museum and well worth a visit. Entering some of the buildings comes at a small fee.

A good museum for both (local art) but especially for the history of industry and manufacturing since the middle ages in this area. Close to Zaanse Schans, a good combination
