Museum
“e Goreme Open-Air Museum resembles a vast monastic complex composed of scores of refectory monasteries placed side-by-side, each with its own fantastic church. It is obviously the first sight to be visited by any traveler in Cappadocia, standing as it does in the very center of the region with easy access from all directions. It is only 15 minutes walk (1.5km, 1 mile) from Goreme village center. It contains the finest of the rock-cut churches, with beautiful frescoes (wall paintings) whose colors still retain all their original freshness. It also presents unique examples of rock hewn architecture and fresco technique. The Goreme Open Air Museum has been a member of UNESCO World Heritage List since 1984, and was one of the first two UNESCO sites in Turkey. ”

Cafetería
“Great place to try mezes, borek (filo-type pastry filled with different fillings), çorba (soup - try the lentil çorba) or any of their grills. Small, friendly place with indoor and outdoor tables. Refik the owner is one of the nicest people in Goreme and will always make you welcome. Previously located on the main street, in 2019 he moved the restaurant to his family home located in caves near the entrance to Pigeon Valley (follow the signs). Tell him Lisa sent you and you will be treated like a long lost friend.”

Restaurante
“Top Deck is my personal favourite restaurant in Goreme for a special evening meal. The restaurant is in a small cave giving it a wonderful cosy ambiance. Here you will find excellent food (I highly recommend the meze platter and their roast lamb!) and great service with a superb English-speaking waiter. No doubt the friendly owner and head chef, Mustafa, will drop by your table to welcome you at some stage during your evening. This is a small and popular restaurant - reservations are usually required. (We can arrange this on your behalf).”

“Zelve is another person favourite, and is a wonderful, less-crowded alternative to the Goreme Open Air Museum. An abandoned cave village, it was once the largest inhabited cave community in the area. Spend an easy 2 hours here exploring in peace. Get there by local bus (departing every hour, 10-15 minutes) or walk via Red/Rose Valley and Cavusin village (approx. 7.3kms, 1.5 hours).”
