Best things to do in Fairfield County

Aquarium
“If you have any itch at all for an aquarium, this one is worth the charge. From big (sharks) to small (glowing jellyfish) to in-between (regular seal shows), the Maritime's got it all. Even better than the fish, though, is the old-school IMAX theater adjoined to it. You can see a 45-minute flick without entering the Aquarium. At thirty years old, and slated to be torn down soon, see the six-story screen while you can. ”

“Hike along a path that leads you to an awesome old tunnel, or choose the trail where you can cross a cool suspense bridge. This is a great place to bring dogs, just remember to keep them on a leash. *Pro tip* It is a 4 mile loop from the front parking area, but you can drive very far into the preserve and park very close to the tunnel/bridge trails. ”

“If you love the out doors you'll love Silver Sands. You can walk the reef out to Charles Island during low tide but be careful! The current can be strong over the reef. You can get there by car and pay for parking or you can walk or bike there. Just head out the driveway and take a right down Broadway. Keep going straight until you get to Walnut Beach's public access then follow the boardwalk to Silversands. The trip there is about a mile. You'll walk right past the Walnut Beach Creamery and the Lazy Lobster so grab a bite on the way!”

“We sometimes sell at this Flea Market, which is LARGE! Anything and everything you ever (or never) needed will be here! A bit of a drive but well worth it. If you are a fan of "Flea Market Flip" they shoot here frequently. For $2 it's a nice day out. Food, drinks, etc. are available. (AWESOME chicken fingers!)”

Museo de arte
“Most New Yorkers overlook Connecticut’s only contemporary art museum, but it’s an easy and worthwhile day trip. The building, a former barn, was renovated into a contemporary museum that’s painted white with wood accents. It has two floors of gallery space dedicated to boundary-pushing exhibitions, and it overlooks a two-acre sculpture garden. The Aldrich is worth repeat visits. Because they are a non-collecting institution, their program is always changing. Some recent hits have been Virginia Overton, Steve diBenedetto, and Nancy Shaver.”
