Descripción

Our house is located on the island of Molokai with lanais offering beautiful views of the islands of Maui and Lanai. This unit, downstairs in our house, includes its own private lanai, one bedroom and a separate private bath. We have two twin sofa beds in the living room space and a kitchen with a full size refrigerator.

One private bedroom is available in a home with a small permaculture farm. Friendly hosts make any visit a pleasure. (We also offer 2 bedrooms as a separate listing under Spectacular Ocean View (one with a queen size bed and the 2nd with two single beds)

Molokai is an unusual island with deserted beaches and a strong local culture. It is the least spoiled and commercial of all the islands in Hawaii. Everything is very low key and laid back. There is very little traffic on the island, and no traffic lights, just a few stop signs. It has the tallest waterfall, the longest, most pristine white sand beach in all the islands, and the Kamakou Preserve, a rain forest maintained by the Nature Conservancy. You can use this home as your base to explore the entire island because we are centrally located on the south shore of the island, 4.5 miles east of the town of Kaunakakai.

Life in Molokai can be too quiet for some people! There are very few restaurants, and little to no night life. There is live music at the Molokai hotel and on weekends there are additional venues. It is different, as the primary mission of Molokai residents, the majority of whom are Hawaiian, is to re-weave the thread that connects them to their extraordinary past.

Our neighborhood is a development of two acre lots on the East Side of the island. Not too far is the town of Kaunankakai, which has a few grocery stores, a couple of art galleries with wonderful artwork, a hardware store, a wonderful ice cream store called Dave's, a bicycle shop, a dive store, etc., and Kalele Bookstore with the world's friendliest owner who holds all sorts of special interest events such as monthly film screenings, and book signings, etc.

Because we are not within walking distance of good swimming beaches, markets, and restaurant, please be sure that a rental car is available before you book with us. Rental cars are available through Alamo and (website hidden). Fyi you may also use the free commute bus system, the schedule for which can be found by searching Molokai MEO for the county of Maui. Also we have limited refrigerator space and generally do not make our kitchen available for lunches and dinners.

Also we have limited refrigerator space and generally do not make our kitchen and fridge available to guests. We do make space for guests to put away a few items in the fridge for their lunches or beer, wine, etc.

The main lanai, the living room if they want to join us in the evenings.
If we are on the island during a guest's visit we are happy to show guests the perma farm and teach them the names of all the tropical plants on the property.

We always go over the Map of Molokai with guests and show them all the best spots and must-see places.
They often join us for chats in the living room at night or over breakfast before they set off for the day. We introduce them to friends if they happen to be visiting us and guests always seem to love these interactions with local residents.

We have lots of sunshine, good strong breezes and sometimes too much for my potted plants in the nursery area, but it keeps the house cool even in the summer.
We have lots of young tropical trees that we have planted and gorgeous views from everywhere on the hill.

There is a free MEO bus with limited run times. Check the local paper for a timetable..

Normas de la casa

We expect guests to make themselves at home, and to interact with us as much as they are comfortable.
When we are traveling abroad (as will be the case in the summer of 2016) we provide space in the fridge for breakfast items and you can make your own breakfast. You can also use the kitchen to make you lunch sandwiches. You will also have some room in the fridge to keep your beer or wine.
We hope you will enjoy our home and your vacation in Molokai. Best wishes and safe travels!
