This Nantucket-style Greek Revival house was built for Captain James Henry Swift in 1844. He is the original owner but the house is revered as the residence of Job C. Tripp, a close associate of Henry H. Rogers and best known for his many years of community service to the town of Fairhaven. While residing in the house, from 1865 through 1917, he hosted Manjiro Nakahama on his second visit to Fairhaven, and also entertained Dr. Nakahama, Manjiro's grandson. Manjiro Nakahama is well known as the Japanese boy rescued at sea by Captain Whitfield and brought by him to live in Fairhaven for several years. I have lived in southeastern Massachusetts my whole life. I have so much love for this area and want to share the beauty of it with other people. In Fairhaven, I love to go to the beaches to either read a good book or swim in the ocean. Walking distance from my house, my husband and I enjoy the many culinary options of Margrets, Pumpernickles, Elizabeths, and Wah Mays. I am proud of the history of our town. Benefactor Henry Huttleston Rogers built and donated many beautiful buildings. Located nearby is the Fairhaven town hall, Millicent library, Unitarian church, our Lady's Haven nursing home, and Rogers School. Our home was built for Captain James Henry Swift in 1844. I enjoy keeping my home updated within the period it was built and working in my flower and vegetable garden.
